Also known as an electric shock, or phase-earth fault. Earth leakage is the term used for when a fault (such as broken insulation on the phase) is causing current to go to earth instead of return via the neutral.
This ‘current going to earth’ can be described as what happens when someone receives an electric shock. Instead of the current passing through a wire, it is passing through someones body or skin.
