    The earth loop test is a mandatory electrical test set out in ASNZS:3000:2007 – section 8.

    It determines whether the resistance on the earth fault loop is low enough for breakers to trip in the event of a short circuit.

    If the earth fault loop resistance is too high (during a fault), then breakers might not trip in time which would cause a fire.
