Measured in Hertz (Hz). Frequency determines how many times voltage completes a full cycle per second.

A cycle consists of voltage starting at zero volts, rising to peak voltage (325 volts) falling to zero volts, rising to peak voltage, before falling to zero again. This is one cycle.

AC electricity is 50Hz which means it completes this cycle 50 times per second.

In the USA, electricity is 60Hz. Frequency of the electricity supply must stay within 1.5% of 50 Hz according to Electrical Safety Regulations 2010 section 29.
