This is the switchboard where the entire electrical system can be controlled from.
The main switchboard will have the incoming mains terminated into the main switch.
The main switchboard may have fuses for sub mains going to other sub switchboards.
At a minimum, the main switchboard will have a neutral bar, an earth bar, and most probably, a MEN link.
It should have a main earth and a main neutral.
There may be control devices such as contactors and timers present.
The main switchboard will contain a range of protective devices such as MCBs, RCDs which protect the home from short circuits, overloads and earth leakage.
Older switchboards may contain re-wireable fuses which should be replaced.
The main switchboard must be installed away from wet areas or anywhere that could block fire exits according to ASNZS:3000:2007.
