Installed by the lines company on behalf of the retailer, a meter measures how much electricity has been consumed by an electrical installation.
A single meter can measure electricity usage for one property or several properties. One property might have several meters (such as a meter for shared services).
A meter is identified by its unique ICP number which is given by the electricity retailer.
A meter can have a digital or analog display. With modern digital meters, you can tell what type of power you have at the meter. For example, if single phase is present at the property, there will be one flashing LED while if there is three phase power there will be three flashing LEDs .
Meter use transformers to measure power usage.
A meter is wired with the mains coming from the service pillar into the meter via a main switch. Cable comes out of the meter to the home’s electrical system via the main switchboard.
