Old school plug in fuses can be of the re-wirable type (Illegal in new installations according to the Electrical Safety Regulations 2010) or of a MCB type (automatic trip).
If you have plug in fuses, it might be time to upgrade your switchboard as they dont have the same protection capabilities as RCDs and MCBs.
For example, they will not protect you against electric shocks.
