As shown in the graph, shock limits show what happens to the human body when exposed to electrical current (electric shock) over a period of time.
Shock limits determine how sensitive RCDs need to be to protect human life.
As time exposed to electric shock increases, potential harm increases.
As the size of the electric shock (current) increases, potential harm increases.
As you can see, 30 milliamps at 300 milliseconds will save someone from going into ventricular fibrillation.
This is what a standard RCD will ‘trip’ at. There are also more sensitive RCDs for places like schools and retirement homes.
