UPS stands for ‘uninterruptible power supply’. A UPS is used for protecting electronic equipment like computers and security cameras to ensure continued operation during a power outage.
They ensure that electronic equipment isn’t damaged by fluctuating voltages that can occur before or after outages.
A UPS does this by detecting unusual voltages then switching to its own battery supply.
This battery supply provides power which is then filtered into a clean power source so the device connected to the UPS can get a clean and stable power supply.
When there are normal electrical conditions, the UPS will bypass the battery and use the normal power supply.
A UPS can be small enough to power a computer but also large enough to accommodate large data centers.
